The Big River area, with its famous small-town spirit, beautiful rolling hills and dozens of pristine lakes, welcomes you to ‘Nature’s Doorstep’. This area is the gateway to the wild west side of Prince Albert National Park. Known for its long Main Street that leads to a pier on Cowan Lake, this area has outstanding fishing and offers many other activities including hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, snowmobiling, horseback riding and even downhill skiing.

Nearby, at the Ness Creek Site, thousands of people gather in July for the Ness Creek Music Festival – a celebration of music, ecology, community and the arts. Other events include Country at the Creek in June, Northern Lights Bluegrass & Old Tyme Music Festival and Music Camp in August.

Ness Creek Site offers a variety of cultural, recreational and educational activities for all ages, and 20 km of excellent trails. Just a few kilometers up the road is Nesslin Lake with beautiful beaches, well-treed campsites, yurts, and the most outstanding northern lights you’re likely to see.

Sturgeon River Ranch offers trail rides through prairies and forests. View Canada’s only wild free ranging plains bison herd still within their historic range and visit rare fescue grass islands surrounded by lush forests, all while enjoying the beautiful vistas along the many rivers, streams, lakes and valleys! Spot elk, moose, deer, wolves and bears. Toss a line into Tie Lake and catch tomorrow’s dinner or just kick back and listen to the loons. Spend the nights in your well-appointed tipi, view the northern lights and just breathe as your senses come alive to all the sights and sounds of the starry Western Sky, all while the flames of the campfire dance and the stories and songs of the day provide the finishing touches to a perfect day.  During the music festivals at the Ness Creek site, book a Bison & Banjo Tour with your group.
