Arts and Culture

CreativeNess (Big River)

Ness Creek Campground is a great venue for an art retreat and has several workshops from April to October to commune with nature and bring out that inner artist in us all. From music camps to watercolours, yoga & wellness, photography and blacksmithing the site and area inspires international artists especially during the bi-annual International Emma Lake Art Collective in which the next date is 2016. Big River and the Waskesiu & Area Wilderness Region attracts a variety of artists who are inspired by the landscapes, the wildlife and the people of the area. We can hook your group up with nature-inspired hands-on workshops that will unleash your creativity and build camaraderie at the same time.

Women of Waskesiu Prince Albert National Park (Waskesiu)

Watch the great film on the pioneers and aboriginal women who shaped the Waskesiu area and still have descendants involved in the community today! Work with Prince Albert National Park’s Metis artists for a customized workshop for your group and learn more about the rich heritage of the area. Take a photography tour within the parks and learn tips on shooting landscapes and wildlife from our guides. Join us in September for the Reel Rave Film festival in the Waskesiu Townsite and enjoy our art on a plate with regional culinary offerings from the Hawood Inn dining room.

North of 263 (District of Lakeland)

Emma Lake was known in the 1920’s as the place to be for artists. The University of Saskatchewan used to run a very successful and well-respected Kinderdine Campus for artists in the area. The spirit of that campus lives on and supports a great group of potters, wood-turners, photographers, painters and mix-medium artists that live in the area and offer a tour to their studios in August annually. All our local restaurants and businesses have partnerships with local artists and can connect your group with one or two of them for a unique workshop or experience. Floral Magic and Summer’s Past Greenhouses provide wreath-making and planter workshops during specific times of the year also.

Epicurean Weekends (Elk Ridge Resort)

Food is art and art is food, especially at Elk Ridge Resort in the spring and winter months. Book your group or event around November’s ‘Warm up to Winter’ event or April’s Epicurean Weekend and you won’t be disappointed. Blind tastings, to group cooking classes, wine and spirit appreciation to outdoor fires, ice bars and regional culinary treats is a great way to bond and appreciated each other. Plan a culinary cooking class or team-building event around food and we will execute it for you. This is a tasty and fun way to enjoy Elk Ridge Resort’s excellent group and corporate facilities.

Yoga and Wellness (Big River, Elk Ridge Resort)

Downward dog or the lotus pose seems much more serene at Elk Ridge Resort or at Ski Timber Ridge’s chalet. Enjoy a yoga retreat in April or in August in either location and soak up the positive environment and natural vistas. We have many local yoga instructors who can lead your group in an outdoor on the beach, near the pond, on the ridge or in the forest depending on your needs.
