Wildlife and Birding

Bison Ride (Big River, Prince Albert National Park – West Side)

Nothing like a trail ride with your co-workers to really get to know each other! Ride through the birch trees and boreal forest on the West Side of Prince Albert National Park with Sturgeon River Ranch (award-winning business and Canadian Tourism Commission – Signature Experience for Saskatchewan) and be prepared to view free-roaming bison in their natural range. There are very few free-roaming herds left in North America and Gord and his team will provide you the opportunity to see these majestic creatures along with others such as wolves, foxes, and stunning scenery along the ride. Camp out under the stars or in a comfy yurt. Don’t ride, don’t worry you can ride in the cover wagon and still be part of the adventure.

Loony for Lakeland (Lakeland)

Join Brad Muir’s Sundogs Excursions for an informative and fun tour with your team on one of North America’s most loon-populated lakes: Anglin Lake in the District of Lakeland. You will understand why this bird has been around for thousands of years as one of the most well-adapted species. You’ll see the habitat and waterway networks the loon create for their immediate family and learn about the environment along the war.

Out-of the Office and Into The Wild (Prince Albert National Park-Waskesiu)

Book a naturalist, biologist, heritage interpreter from Prince Albert National Park during the off season (Oct-May) to add an informed and fun element to your hike, camping or natural experience in Prince Albert National Park. Learn about the flora & fauna, bio-diversity and geographical features of this unique piece of Canada! Learn sustainable tourism practices and how to tell from animal tracks what is female and what is male. Find out what kind of winter we are having from beaver dams. Book them by the hour through the Visitor Centre.

The Wolf & Dog & You

Sundogs Excursions (Lakeland, Elk Ridge & Prince Albert National Park)

Brad Muir’s team provides an unique wilderness experience for your team from learning what it is like to be a pack dog or musher through his puppy camp workshop to getting in touch with your inner wolf. He leads excursions year-round with hands-on natural experiences from loon lake tours, dry-dog carting to a winter dogsledding experience you won’t soon forget!

The Biggest Year (Big River, Lakeland, Prince Albert National Park-Waskesiu, Elk Ridge Resort)

If you remember the movie on the biggest birding event in the world you’ll love the opportunities our area provides for unique water fowl, birds of prey and some northern species such as the nuthatches who like to eat upside down. Bald eagles perch high up in the trees in Big River at Nesslin Lake or can be spotted on a sunset tour with Waskesiu Marina staff on the Hanging Heart Lakes. Work with a naturalist to lead a hike and check off your own bucket list of birds or simply enjoy a group lunch at Lake Country Cottage and watch them while you dine!
