There's no such thing as hibernating during the winter in the Waskesiu Wilderness Region. The trails are at full throttle from Big River all the way to Lakeland. Enjoy the scenic open terrain and forested zones as you carve the snow through Saskatchewan's lush boreal forests. Snowmobilers will find scenic rides through forests, along old logging roads, across open meadows and to ice-covered lakes. The local snowmobile clubs take good care of this network of trails, many of which double for ATV tracks in summer.

BIG RIVER

Snowmobilers will find scenic rides through forests, along old logging roads, across open meadows and to ice-covered lakes. The local snowmobile clubs take good care of this network of trails, many of which double for ATV tracks in the summer. Trails wind throughout the area with loops north along Cowan Lake and east towards Ness Lake. Warm-up shelters are located throughout and fuel is available in Big River. The Trans-Canadian Snowmobile Trail also runs through the area. Local trails range from 9km to 80km. Riders are encouraged to travel with a friend and use GPS to navigate. LAKELAND

The Elk Ridge Resort is truly a four-season destination with a great variety of winter activities. Cross-country ski trails wind through the area and the frozen pond is home to a great skating track and space for hockey. Curling, tobogganing and snowmobiling round out the roster of winter activities. Warm up by the sheltered fire or head for the indoor pool and waterslide.
